First Conference on Leveraging the African Continental Free Trade Area for Higher Education Integration

Prof Christopher Tankou Focal person University of Dschang represented CSAS Project is excited to present at this conference, which promises to be an essential gathering for shaping the future of higher education and trade across Africa. The opening ceremony will feature distinguished leaders, including Dr. Daniel Urbain Ndongo, Director of the IRIC, Cameroon, and Prof. Jean Koulidiati, Rector of the Pan African University. A representative from the Head of State of Cameroon will also grace the event. Session I will set the political and institutional stage, with notable speakers such as H.E. Selma Malika Haddadi, Vice-Chair of the African Union Commission, Emily Mburu-Ndoria from the AfCFTA Secretariat, and H.E. Nardos Bekele-Thomas, CEO of AUDA-NEPAD. The European Union’s Jean-Marc Chataigner and experts from the HAQAA initiative will explore the workplan for 2025-2028, with a focus on strengthening African higher education through trade integration. CSAS is proud to be part of these important discussions, which will explore the evolving relationship between trade, higher education, and African continental integration, including the presentation of HAQAA publications and the new website for leveraging AfCFTA for higher education integration. This event is a key milestone in advancing Africa’s collective goals in higher education and sustainable development.

The conference, held on April 7-8, 2025, at the Pan African University and IRIC in Yaoundé, Cameroon, was a landmark event, setting the stage for crucial discussions on the future of higher education within the AfCFTA framework.
