📢CSAS Team actively participates in the 48th Graduation Ceremony of Egerton University 📢

The 48th Graduation ceremony of Egerton university was held on Friday 29th November 2024 at Njoro Campus sports ground. All candidates who qualified for the Conferment of various Degrees and Award of Diplomas of Egerton University during the 2023/24 were expected to be settled by 9:00am. The achievement of the 2024 class was greatly celebrated along Egerton’s legacy of excellence together as this saw 3,490 graduands receive their awards.

Prior to the ceremony was rehearsal session which was held on the graduation ground in order to understand the Etiquette of the day. In the lead were our own CSAS Professors Mwanarusi Saidi and Patience Mshenga whose participation was instrumental in organising such a conspicuous function. As a Registrar incharge of Academic Affairs, Prof Mwanarusi Saidi tirelessly worked and made sure all qualified candidate names appeared on the graduation booklet and on the other hand Professor Patience Mshenga, the Dean of Faculty of Agriculture took change of the Luncheon of all the dignitaries. It was evident that the lead organizing team must have had sleepless nights to have such a colourful function and a unique style of celebration.

The occasion was graced by a number of dignitaries including but not limited to members of the University Council, Deans, Departmental heads, Directors of Boards, Schools and Institutes and politicians. In attendance among other dignitaries was the speaker of South Sudan parliament who was escorted by a big delegation to witness her conferment of a Masters degree. Last but not least, the graduation ceremony was also attended by Dr Losira Nasirumbi Sanya and Dr Sarah Akello from Makerere University who were taking part in the CSAS project staff exchange program at Egerton University. The Chief Guest during the 48th Graduation Ceremony was Mr Fredrick Ndambuki Representative of the Principal Secretary State Department for Higher Education and Research, Ministry of Education.

The occasion was presided over by the Chancellor of Egerton University, Dr. Narendra Rameshchandra Raval with involvement of the Vice chancellor Prof. Isaac Kibwage together with the Deputy Vice chancellor Academic affairs, Prof. Bernard O. Aduda. In his none written speech made from his heart to the graduates, the Chancellor congratulated the Class of 2024 and highlighted that their achievement was a testament not only to their individual efforts but also to the sacrifices of their families and the guidance of their mentors. He had heart-warming and challenging message to every level of the day’s Graduands as they transition from students to alumni. The passion exhibited in his speech still lingers in our mind on how graduates can be able to take care of themselves after obtaining their respective qualifications. He selflessly offered his entire annual salary to furnishing a conference hall at the university and additionally, internship placement to students in his companies that are found in almost all regions in Kenya. His fatherly advice on how to focus more on bettering themselves and avoiding getting married with no sense of responsibility was heartwarming. He encouraged the graduands to strive to make a difference, not just in their own lives but in their communities and beyond.

To this day, the participation of the CSAS team in this grand academic event reaffirms the teams’ commitment in supporting higher education institutions in Africa and ability to network to sustainably strengthen such valuable partnerships across the continent.
